Many people undergo dental implant procedures by the age of 50. Though getting it is the first step, it is equally significant to take care of it when the surgery is done. Taking proper care of your teeth after the implant procedure protects you from feelings of discomfort, pain, and complications in the future.

Stop the Bleeding

Slight bleeding after your Dental Implant surgery is relatively normal. However, in case of excessive bleeding that is not stopping, it is advisable to bite on a gauze pad for 30 minutes. If the bleeding still doesn’t stop, you need to call your dentist as quickly as possible.

Reduce Swelling or Bruising

After your implant surgery, you will see swelling and bruising on your cheeks and gums. It will usually be a problem for two to three days and then will resolve itself. Nonetheless, if the swelling is affecting you, you can treat it by applying an ice pack to the affected area. It is suggested to keep it for 15 to 20 minutes and then take a break. Repeat the process for the next 48 hours for better results.

Minimize the Pain

As soon as you feel the anesthetic wearing off, it is time for you to take over-the-counter ibuprofen to reduce the pain. Follow the instructions on the packaging carefully. If, even after taking the painkillers, you feel severe pain or discomfort, you have to consult your dentist. They will know your problem and prescribe you the medicines to ease the pain.

Maintain Proper Oral Hygiene

It is important to maintain proper oral hygiene during the healing period of your Implants. It is because the soft tissue around the implants should be clean enough to recover swiftly. Thus, brush your teeth normally like you do but avoid contact from the implants. Also, rinse your mouth after every meal with warm water and some pinch of salt in it. Continue the process after a few days of the surgery. Also, do not use floss or an electric toothbrush for some days after the procedure.

Lastly, get your checkups done regularly by your dentist for three months to ensure that implants are safe from the risk of infections and are kept clean throughout. Dealing with minor problems will release you from any inconvenience in the future.
